Welcome to India's most advanced Online Hindi Typing Test platform. Whether you are preparing for SSC CGL/CHSL, Railway NTPC, IBPS, Bihar Beltron, UP Police Computer Operator, or High Court Steno exams, our tool provides an exact simulation of the real exam environment.

Typing in Hindi is not just a skill but a mandatory requirement for thousands of government jobs in India. Our tool supports both major Hindi keyboard layouts: Remington Gail (KrutiDev) and Inscript (Mangal). By practicing here daily, you can easily achieve a speed of 40-50 WPM with high accuracy.

Understanding Hindi Keyboard Layouts: KrutiDev vs. Mangal

Many students get confused between the different fonts and layouts used in exams. Here is a clear breakdown:

Feature KrutiDev (Remington Gail) Mangal (Inscript)
Type Legacy Font (TrueType) Unicode Font
Layout Style Typewriter Style (Keys are arranged based on frequency of use in typewriters). Logical/Phonetic Style (Vowels on one side, consonants on other).
Used In Exams State Exams: UP Police, Bihar Beltron, Rajasthan LDC, MP CPCT (Old), CRPF HCM. Central Exams: SSC CGL/CHSL, Railway NTPC, IBPS, KVS, Delhi Police.
Requirement Requires learning specific Alt Codes for special characters. Standardized layout built into Windows (Enable via Control Panel).

Government Exam Typing Requirements (2025 Updated)

Different exams have different criteria for speed and error calculation. Knowing this before you start practicing is crucial.

  • SSC CGL & CHSL:
    • Speed: 30 WPM (approx. 2000 key depressions in 15 mins).
    • Allowed Mistakes: 5% to 7% (Category wise).
    • Font: Mangal (Inscript) or Remington Gail (CBI).
  • Railway NTPC:
    • Speed: 30 WPM in Hindi.
    • Font: KrutiDev or Mangal (Candidates usually get a choice).
    • Feature: Editing tools (Backspace, Highlight) are often disabled.
  • CRPF Head Constable (HCM):
    • Speed: 35 WPM in Hindi.
    • Font: Remington Gail (KrutiDev).
    • Strictness: Very high. Backspace is often not allowed.
  • Allahabad/Patna High Court:
    • Speed: 25-30 WPM.
    • Font: Usually Remington Gail.

Important KrutiDev Alt Codes (Remington Layout)

How to Calculate Hindi Typing Speed?

Understanding the calculation method is essential to track your progress correctly. Most software uses the standard formula where 5 characters = 1 Word (including spaces).

Formula 1: Gross WPM (Raw Speed)

Gross Speed = (Total Characters Typed / 5) / Time (min)

Example: If you typed 1500 characters in 10 minutes.
1500 / 5 = 300 words.
300 / 10 = 30 WPM.

Formula 2: Net WPM (Actual Speed)

Net Speed = Gross Speed - (Mistakes / Time)

However, SSC and Railways use a different penalty system:

  • Full Mistakes: Omission of a word, substitution of a wrong word, or addition of an extra word.
  • Half Mistakes: Spelling error, wrong capitalization (rare in Hindi), or spacing error.
  • Penalty: Usually, for every full mistake, a specific number of correct words (often 10) are deducted, or the error percentage is calculated.

Pro Tips to Increase Hindi Typing Speed

  1. Learn Touch Typing: Do not look at the keyboard. Memorize the key positions. If you look at the keys, your speed will never cross 25-30 WPM.
  2. Hand Position: Keep your fingers on the 'Home Row' (middle row). For KrutiDev, your left hand should be on ASDF and right hand on JKL;.
  3. Accuracy First: Don't rush. Speed comes automatically with muscle memory. If you type fast but make mistakes, your Net Speed will drop drastically due to penalties.
  4. Practice Daily: Consistency is key. Practice for at least 30 minutes daily using our tool. Start with 2-minute tests and gradually move to 10-minute tests.
  5. Use Old Keyboards: In exam centers, you often get old, hard keys (TVS Gold / Dell basics). Don't get used to soft laptop keyboards. Connect a hard USB keyboard to practice.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. Which font should I practice for SSC CGL?

For SSC CGL and CHSL, the typing test is conducted on the Mangal Font (Inscript Layout) or Remington Gail (KrutiDev). However, Inscript is easier to learn and is the standard Windows layout.

Q. Is Backspace allowed in the exam?

It depends on the exam. In SSC, backspace is fully allowed. In CRPF and some State Exams, backspace is often restricted or disabled. Our tool allows you to toggle backspace in 'Advanced Options'.

Q. How is accuracy calculated?

Accuracy = (Total Correct Words / Total Words Typed) * 100. For most exams, you need at least 90% to 95% accuracy to qualify.

Q. My speed is stuck at 25 WPM. What to do?

This is a common "plateau". To break it, stop focusing on speed for 3 days and focus only on typing without a single error. Once your fingers stop hesitating, your speed will jump to 35+ WPM automatically.
