Pro tip: Case matters! Use small 'l' for ല, capital 'L' for ള. Use 'zh' specifically for the classic Malayalam ഴ sound. Use small 'r' for ര and capital 'R' for റ.
Koottaksharangal, Chillu Letters & Chandrakkala
Malayalam has specific rules for combining consonants and dropping vowels. Our tool makes typing them incredibly simple:
- Chandrakkala (്): This mark removes the inherent vowel 'a' from a consonant. Type the consonant without a trailing vowel, or rely on the engine. For example,
ith→ ഇത്. - Koottaksharangal (Conjunct Consonants): Type consonants sequentially without vowels between them. For example,
kya→ ക്യ,pra→ പ്ര,amma→ അമ്മ. - Chillaksharam (Chillu): These are pure consonants without any vowel sound. The phonetic engine usually handles these automatically at the end of words. For example,
